Education
The Catholic Diocese of Lodwar education arm is currently made up of two components: The Nurseries programme and the Adult education programme.
Adult Education is a unit of the Education and Religious Education Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar.and. It focuses on helping the Turkana community improve their social conditions by providing literacy classes and by promoting critical awareness of issues affecting the community and by promoting micro – finance to boost their income generating activities. The programme, operates 35 literacy centres throughout all of the sub counties.
The programme operates one Back to School centre catering for young school drop-outs and for adults who wish to sit for KCPE.
The nurseries programme caters for the young kids, those in their formative stages of learning. The Catholic Diocese of Lodwar Nurseries programme has the following objectives:
- Provide access to Early Childhood Development Education for children between the ages of 3 and 6 years in all our supported nursery schools.
- Provide school friendly programs such as a food program to all our supported nursery schools.
- Sensitize the local communities on the importance of education for their children.
- Build the capacity of teachers and school committees so as to make sure children receive quality education.
- Strengthen Linkages with the County government and other stakeholders for the support of the 50 Diocese of Lodwar nurseries.
