Caritas Lodwar is the humanitarian and development arm of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar, Kenya. Inspired by Catholic faith, Caritas is the helping hand of the Church – reaching out to the poor, vulnerable and excluded, regardless of race or religion, to build a world based on justice and fraternal love.
The Diocese of Lodwar, which recently celebrated 55 years of Catholic presence in the land of Turkana, has been instrumental in providing pastoral, spiritual and social support to the people. Her efforts in setting up the basic development structures and services to the communities for the past 55 years in Turkana County are remarkable.
The Diocese of Lodwar has and will continue to play a critical role in filling gaps in state service provision by bringing humanitarian interventions to vulnerable groups and providing sustainable development. The Diocese has been for many years almost the sole actor in development initiatives and the Initiator in Livelihoods and Agriculture, Water, Education and Health basic infrastructures in the whole County. Empowerment of women, human rights and vulnerable groups, fighting for justice and building of peace have also been initiated and highlighted by the Diocese since her very inception.
